How to Foster Hope

For the 4,600+ kids in South Carolina’s foster care system, life is full of uncertainty and insecurity. There are so many areas of life where they feel alone and disconnected. I believe we all have the capacity to care for the vulnerable children of our state. Not everyone is called (or able) to be a foster parent, but we all have gifts and talents that can help foster children feel seen, important and cared for during their time in care.

To help you find a way to engage, this page compiles numerous programs that support the foster community, you can browse these opportunities using the keywords that indicate the type of service, region, commitment level, etc.

College Fellows

Fewer than 10% of youth aging out of foster care pursue higher education and obtain a college degree. By providing academic and emotional support help, you can help foster youth to attend and succeed in college.

Sib-Link

Siblings are often separated in foster care, sometimes counties apart and miss each other. By helping facilitate monthly sibling visits, you can help support and sustain the power of lifelong sibling bonds.

Tutor Match

Children removed from their homes often fall behind in school. Tutoring brings them up to grade level again. This program is seeking weekly commitments for in-person tutoring in the Upstate, as well as statewide virtual assistance.

Fostering the Family

Creating support groups that wrap around one foster family to provide care and encouragement to those who are doing the hard and holy work of fostering children through transition and trauma.

Life Support

Youth in foster care often lack consistent relationships. They may struggle academically, developmentally, and relationally. High-quality relationships are the foundation for all other learning to take place.
